Bring The Inside Out — Outdoor Living Spaces

August 19, 2021 by Rock Solid

With spending more time at home this past year and a half, it’s given us time to create the outdoor living space of our dreams. It’s also shown us the importance of creating an outdoor living space that is not only beautiful, but functional for everyday living. A space to work, entertain the kids, or enjoy a dinner together.

What would your dream outdoor living space look like? Would it have a seating area for relaxing and entertaining, a floating deck or firepit, or a fully functioning outdoor kitchen area?

Not sure where to start? The Rock Solid team can help plan out a space you’ll use every day for your family or friends. Contact us to learn more or check out some of these trending outdoor living space ideas.

Bring the Indoors Out

Comfy outdoor furniture including a couch or loveseat is key to creating a living room outdoors. With the rise in popularity of outdoor living rooms, the style and fabric colors available have become more and more diverse.

The current trends leans toward BoHo designs with natural wood, cane, or rattan finishes. Add a pop of warm color with a rug, throw or accent pillows. To create the indoor-feel arrange your furniture under a patio cover or pergola. Add some drapes, a garden wall, or tiles accents to complete the look. Don’t forget to add a fun chandelier or other outdoor accents lights so that you can enjoy the space well into the evening.

Zoning Your Outdoor Space

Just as you have a kitchen and a living area inside, create similar zoned spaces outdoors. Consider a split-level patio with a separate kitchen area and seating area. To create a modern timeless design, choose large-scale pavers for the hardscape.

Outdoor kitchens are the focal point of many outdoor living spaces. There are numerous layouts and design options rather than the standard barbeque, including adding a pizza oven or drink fridge. Independent kitchens can even include prep space, a sink, storage, and refrigeration, so that most, if not all, cooking needs can be met outdoors. Add a couple of stools to your counter and you can create a place for a friend to pull up for a drink and dinner while you chop and grill.

Over this past year, we’ve also seen the rise of outdoor workspaces. A place to get out of the home office and pull up to your outdoor counter. Incorporating music, Wi-Fi boost, and televisions remain some of the top outdoor technology features to help you work and entertain.

Add Some Heat!

We hate to admit it, but summer does come to an end. As we head into cooler fall evenings, adding a source of heat extends the use of your outdoor living space. An easy solution is to add an outdoor heater or heat lamp. There are some stylish, non-gaudy options for heat lamps that attach to your wall.

The cozier option is to add a fire pit to sit around with a cocktail or mocktail in your hand. The Rock Solid team can help install a natural firepit or a stylish propane option. People love to gather around the fire and it will encourage your guests lingering longer when it gets chilly.

Gardening For The Habitat

An outdoor living space is enhanced by your landscaping and gardening choices. A timeless and popular trends is to add hanging planters, table planters, or vertical wall plants to your outdoor living space. Often these contain homegrown vegetables or herbs. You can also use planters instead of a wall to create zoning in your backyard.

However, the biggest trending in gardening is sustainability. Choose native plants and wildflowers to create a natural butterfly or pollinator garden. Not only are you adding color and texture to your space, but you’re also creating a sustainable habitat for our dwindling pollinator populations.

Trendy, But Timeless

What outdoor living features would make your yard an oasis or more functional? Whether it is a few moments of solitude on the balcony, a family dinner at the outdoor dining table, or throwing a party with roaring fire, creating an outdoor living space lets you make the most of home living.

Plus, designing an outdoor space that your family will use will always be timeless! Want to know more about how Rock Solid can help you redesign your patio, add an outdoor kitchen, or install a fireplace? We’d love to chat! Give us a call to book your free estimate.
