Yard clean up and preparation NOW pays off next year!
As we watch summer shrink away in the rear-view mirror, it’s tempting to think that lawn care and landscaping duties are done for the season. Well…not really. Not at all.
Fall is a very productive, proactive time. What you do over the next six weeks sets the stage for a healthy lawn and finished hardscapes when spring comes around next year.
Check out Rock Solid’s handy year-round lawn care calendar and yard clean up services.
Up here in the northern climate, a lot can (and should) be accomplished in early autumn. For some projects, you have until the ground freezes (usually in November).
Overseed the Lawn
After a summer of hard use and weather, rake up the dead grass and add seed. When soil is still warm and temperatures are moderate, seeds germinate quickly for an abundant lawn next year. Remember, a thicker, healthier lawn crowds out weeds.
Fall Lawn Preparation
Grass is busy growing and roots are absorbing nutrients right through October, so you’ll continue to hear the buzz of lawn mowers. This is also an excellent time to aerate and fertilize one last time.
Install a Fire Pit
Imagine sitting around a cozy warm fire pit with a hot toddy after a day of winter trail blazing. Get ready for it! Fall is also a good time to design and install that retaining wall, patio, or walkway you’ve had in mind. Just complete it before the ground freezes.
Winterize Irrigation System
Lawns, especially if they’re seeded, should be watered into October, but don’t neglect having your irrigation system prepared in time for the deep freeze. Protect your investment.
